I found this on a bicycle forum. It took some digging but I figured out what it is. The crankcase is different than the later Flying Merkel twins. This bike is identical to the one pictured in the 1910 catalog. Customer race bike? Not sure how it may differ from the factory race bikes. Maybe not at all cosmetically. The rider is F.E.Whittler.

1910 Merkel - Light racer.
